There's a lot history surrounding The Boatyard Landing Trailhead. There is convenient parking alongside the river banks on Netherland Inn Road.

In the distance, Bays Mountain is in the background and this vantage point on the river was the landing area for early flatboats bringing salt and supplies down from Saltville, Virginia.

Historic Netherland Inn is right across the road and a replica of one of the early flatboats can be seen at this trailhead.

You'll also find a couple of historic homes nearby and a great place to fish on a few fishing piers. There is an adjacent restroom close to the trail.
