The Big Elm Trailhead is named for the large Elm trees that were part of Kingsport's early history on Big Elm Road.

This trailhead has a limited amount of parking on both sides of Netherland Inn Road and features the convergence of the North Fork and South Fork of the Holston River.

The historic Rotherwood Mansion, a private residence is nearby too and has plenty of stories about Kingsport's early history as a stately plantation home and early refuge for soldiers of the Civil War.
