Lynn Garden is a community located on land formerly owned by the Lynn family, wealthy merchants of Old Kingsport (Boat Yard). It was strategically important as the main route to Moccasin Gap, Gate City, Virginia, and points north along U.S. 23. It became a fast-growing suburb in the 1930s and wasn’t annexed to the City of Kingsport until 50 years later. The original route followed what today Donelson Drive and Truxton Drive are. This was the most important intersection in Kingsport’s early years due to the convergence of the Reedy Creek Road (Bloomingdale Pike), Great Stage Road (Netherland Inn Road & West Sullivan Street), and Scott County Road (Lynn Garden Drive) at a covered bridge crossing over Reedy Creek.
